| Description | This small protein is found in three archaeal species so far (Methanocaldococcus jannaschii (Methanococcus jannaschii), Archaeoglobus fulgidus, and Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum (strain Marburg / DSM 2133)) as well as in Anabaena. It is homologous to thioredoxins, glutaredoxins, and protein disulphide isomerases, and shares with them a redox-active disulphide. The redox active disulphide region CXXC motif resembles neither thioredoxin nor glutaredoxin [ ]. Proteins in this family include an archaebacterial thioredoxin, MtH895, from Methanothermobacter thermautotrophicus. MtH895 has low thioredoxin activity in vitro, but exhibits no glutaredoxin activity [ ]. |
